INFORMATION: UNDERSTANDING REDEMPTIVE TRIALS
The Strategic Purpose of Trials
1 Peter 1:6-7 (NLT) – “So be truly glad. There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you must endure many trials for a little while. These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold—though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to all the world.”
James 1:2-4 (NLT) – “Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance grows. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.”
Trials as Kingdom Development
Romans 5:3-5 (NLT) – “We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope in God. And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit, who fills our hearts with his love.”
2 Corinthians 4:16-18 (NLT) – “That is why we never give up. Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed every day. For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever! So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.”
The Ministry Multiplication Principle
2 Corinthians 1:3-4 (NLT) – “All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us.”
Philippians 1:12-14 (NLT) – “And I want you to know, my dear brothers and sisters, that everything that has happened to me here has helped to spread the Good News. For everyone here, including the whole palace guard, knows that I am in chains because of Christ. And because of my imprisonment, most of the believers here have gained confidence and boldly speak God’s message without fear.”
INSPIRATION: TRIALS AS KINGDOM POSITIONING
Reframing Your Current Challenge
Hebrews 12:10-11 (NLT) – “For our earthly fathers disciplined us for a few years, doing the best they knew how. But God’s discipline is always good for us, so that we might share in his holiness. No discipline is enjoyable while it is happening—it’s painful! But afterward there will be a peaceful harvest of right living for those who are trained in this way.”
Isaiah 43:2-3a (NLT) – “When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you. For I am the Lord, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.”
The Acceleration Through Adversity Principle
Job 23:10 (NLT) – “But he knows where I am going. And when he tests me, I will come out as pure as gold.”
MOTIVATION: ACTIVATING ENDURING FAITH
The Endurance Strategy
Galatians 6:9 (NLT) – “So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.”
1 Corinthians 10:13 (NLT) – “The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.”
The Compound Effect of Endurance
James 1:12 (NLT) – “God blesses those who patiently endure testing and temptation. Afterward they will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.”
