I. JESUS AS THE GREAT SHEPHERD
Guides / Provides / Protects
John 10:6-10 (NLT) – 6 Those who heard Jesus use this illustration didn’t understand what he meant, 7 so he explained it to them: “I tell you the truth, I am the gate for the sheep. 8 All who came before me were thieves and robbers. But the true sheep did not listen to them. 9 Yes, I am the gate. Those who come in through me will be saved. They will come and go freely and will find good pastures. 10 The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.
II. JESUS AS THE GREAT TEACHER
Engages / Equips / Empowers / Encourages
A. His teaching was empowered by His Father
John 3:2 (NLT) – After dark one evening, he came to speak with Jesus. “Rabbi,” he said, “we all know that God has sent you to teach us. Your miraculous signs are evidence that God is with you.”
Matthew 7:29 (NLT) – …for he taught with real authority—quite unlike their teachers of religious law.
B. His teaching permeated everything He did
Mark 6:34 (NLT) – Jesus saw the huge crowd as he stepped from the boat, and he had compassion on them because they were like sheep without a shepherd. So he began teaching them many things.
C. He teaches now through the Holy Spirit
John 14:26 (NLT) – But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative—that is, the Holy Spirit—he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you.
