What Is Worship?
Ascribing Worth To Something
Revelation 4:11 (NLT) – “You are worthy, O Lord our God, to receive glory and honor and power. For you created all things, and they exist because you created what you pleased.”
If your worship doesn’t cost you anything, it’s not ascribing worth to God.
Sacrifice
Genesis 22:5 (NLT) – “Stay here with the donkey,” Abraham told the servants. “The boy and I will travel a little farther. We will worship there, and then we will come right back.”
Romans 12:1-2 (NLT) – And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. 2 Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.
“Bondservant”
Philippians 1:1 “Paul & Timothy, bondservants of Jesus Christ”
James 1:1 “James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ”
2 Peter 1:1 “Simon Peter, a bondservant & apostle of Jesus Christ”
Jude 1:1 “Jude, a bondservant of Jesus Christ”
Titus 1:1 “Paul, a bondservant of God & an apostle of Jesus Christ”
About God, Not Man
Mark 12:30 (NLT) – And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.
Galatians 1:10 (NLT) – Obviously, I’m not trying to win the approval of people, but of God. If pleasing people were my goal, I would not be Christ’s servant.
Worship is an attitude that dictates action.
