OPENING: Revival Is A Personal Event
Romans 12:2 NLT — “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.”
INFORMATION: Revival Reveals His Kingdom
Acts 2:42-47 NLT — “All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord’s Supper), and to prayer. A deep sense of awe came over them all, and the apostles performed many miraculous signs and wonders. And all the believers met together in one place and shared everything they had. They sold their property and possessions and shared the money with those in need. They worshiped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord’s Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity — all the while praising God and enjoying the goodwill of all the people. And each day the Lord added to their fellowship those who were being saved.”
4 things that happened after revival broke out:
1. They learned to Follow Jesus
- Acts 2:42a NLT — “All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching.”
- They went from praying to receive Jesus to learning how to follow.
2. They connected in community
- Acts 2:42b NLT — “All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord’s Supper).”
- You cannot follow Jesus in isolation. The enemy’s strategy is to keep you alone — isolated, figuring it out by yourself. Jesus designed us for connection.
3. They continually prayed
- Prayer wasn’t an event. Prayer was at the center of their lives.
Colossians 4:2 NLT — “Devote yourselves to prayer with an alert mind and a thankful heart.”
4. They continually worshipped
- “All the while praising God” — worship wasn’t an event; it was part of everyday life. At the Temple. In homes. At meals.
Luke 10:2 NLT — “The harvest is great, but the workers are few. So pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask him to send more workers into his fields.”
INSPIRATION: Maturity Happens In Discipleship
Four stages of spiritual growth — and what grows at each stage:
- Spiritual Infant — TIME: Commit to showing up consistently and engaging in discipleship.
Matthew 28:19-20 NLT — “Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
- Spiritual Child — TALENT: The Lord reveals spiritual gifts and natural talents
Ephesians 4:16 NLT — “He makes the whole body fit together perfectly. As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love.”
- Spiritual Young Adult — TREASURE: The Father’s heart becomes more clear. You start living and giving generously — investing in the mission beyond time and talent.
Matthew 6:21 NLT — “Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.”
- Spiritual Parent — TESTIMONY: Your greatest weapon isn’t knowledge — it’s your testimony. You have a drive to tell others what it means to trust and follow Jesus.
Romans 10:15 NLT — “How will anyone go and tell them without being sent? That is why the Scriptures say, ‘How beautiful are the feet of messengers who bring good news!'”
MOTIVATION: Breaking Through The Resistance
Obstacle 1: “I’m too busy.”
- Spiritual growth happens in the small decisions we make in everyday life.
Ephesians 5:15-16 NLT — “So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise. Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days.”
Obstacle 2: “I’m not ready.”
- You don’t have to be a spiritual adult to disciple others.
2 Timothy 2:2 NLT — “You have heard me teach things that have been confirmed by many reliable witnesses. Now teach these truths to other trustworthy people who will be able to pass them on to others.”
