OPENING: What’s Working Against You
- Key question: When is the last time you actually heard from God — not a feeling, but a clear, unmistakable moment?
- Identify things that distract you from hearing from God.
INFORMATION: God Is At Work
Primary Scripture:
- Habakkuk 1:2 NLT — “How long, O Lord, must I call for help? But you do not listen! ‘Violence is everywhere!’ I cry, but you do not come to save.”
- Habakkuk 2:2-3 NLT — “Then the Lord said to me, ‘Write my answer plainly on tablets, so that a runner can carry the correct message to others. This vision is for a future time. It describes the end, and it will be fulfilled. If it seems slow in coming, wait patiently, for it will surely take place. It will not be delayed.'”
1. God hears your prayers
- Habakkuk prayed honestly — he didn’t clean it up. God didn’t shut him down; He showed up.
- James 5:16 NLT — “The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.”
2. God wants you to see what He’s already doing
- God’s vision will require you to move
- Habakkuk 2:2 NLT — “Write my answer plainly on tablets, so that a runner can carry the correct message to others.”
3. God is always at work
- The gap between receiving the vision and seeing it fulfilled is the time of preparation
- Habakkuk 2:3 NLT — “If it seems slow in coming, wait patiently, for it will surely take place. It will not be delayed.”
INSPIRATION: Revival Is Now
1. The vision is real
- Hebrews 11:1 NLT — “Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see.”
2. Writing down names was an act of faith
- Habakkuk didn’t write the vision down because God needed a reminder — God told him to write it down because Habakkuk needed the anchor when the waiting got hard
MOTIVATION: Never Stop Praying
Obstacle 1: “I’ve been praying and nothing has changed.”
- Galatians 6:9 NLT — “So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.”
Obstacle 2: “I’m not sure God hears my prayers.”
- 1 John 5:14-15 NLT — “And we are confident that he hears us whenever we ask for anything that pleases him. And since we know he hears us when we make our requests, we also know that he will give us what we ask for.”
Obstacle 3: “How often should I pray?”
- 1 Thessalonians 5:17-18 NLT — “Never stop praying. Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.”
God is always at work — even when we don’t see it:
- Habakkuk 3:17-18 NLT — “Even though the fig trees have no blossoms, and there are no grapes on the vines…yet I will rejoice in the Lord! I will be joyful in the God of my salvation!”
TRANSFORMATION: Change Is Here
THREE CALLS TO ACTION:
- Will you humble yourself in prayer?
- Romans 15:13 NLT — “I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.”
- Will you partner with someone in prayer?
- Matthew 18:19 NLT — “If two of you agree here on earth concerning anything you ask, my Father in heaven will do it for you.”
- Share what God has done.
- 1 Thessalonians 5:11 NLT — “So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing.”
