Raising The Next Generation
I. Training Starts With You – Your Heart Toward God
Deuteronomy 6:4-9 (NLT) – “Listen, O Israel! The Lord is our God, the Lord alone. And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength. And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands that I am giving you today. Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up. Tie them to your hands and wear them on your forehead as reminders. Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.”
The Promise:
Psalm 37:4 (NLT) – “Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you your heart’s desires.“
II. The Great Transfer – Passing Faith To The Next Generation
2 Timothy 1:5 (NLT) – “I remember your genuine faith, for you share the faith that first filled your grandmother Lois and your mother, Eunice. And I know that same faith continues strong in you.”
Psalms 78:5-8 (NLT) – “For he issued his laws to Jacob; he gave his instructions to Israel. He commanded our ancestors to teach them to their children, so the next generation might know them— even the children not yet born— and they in turn will teach their own children. So each generation should set its hope anew on God, not forgetting his glorious miracles and obeying his commands. Then they will not be like their ancestors— stubborn, rebellious, and unfaithful, refusing to give their hearts to God.”
III. It Takes A Village – We’re All In This Together
Proverbs 22:6 NLT: “Direct your children onto the right path, and when they are older, they will not leave it.”
