Jesus…In Faith 5 (OUR CHALLENGE)

A. The Decision
Challenge: Listen to Jesus and do what he says.

Abandon- To give up completely (a course of action, a practice, or a way of thinking).

Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone wishes to follow Me[as My disciple], he must deny himself [set aside selfish interests], and take up his cross [expressing a willingness to endure whatever may come] and follow Me [believing in Me, conforming to My example in living and, if need be, suffering or perhaps dying because of faith in Me]. Matthew 16:24 (AMP)

B. Spirit Led:
Challenge: Realize, “I can’t do this alone!” I need Holy Spirit!

Jettison- to get rid of unnecessary things as the result of some other decision.

● SpiritLed(19-21)

Galatians 5:16-26 (NLT) – 16 So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves. 17 The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions. 18 But when you are directed by the Spirit, you are not under obligation to the law of Moses.

○ BadFruit(19-21)

Galatians 5:19-21 (NLT) – 19 When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, 21 envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God.

○ GoodFruit(22–26)

Galatians 5:22-26 (NLT) – 22 But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things! 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there. 25 Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives. 26 Let us not become conceited, or provoke one another, or be jealous of one another.

C. Answer The Call:

Challenge: Pray for God’s direction and be prepared for something bigger than I could ask or imagine.

Weird- suggesting something supernatural

Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.

Matthew 28:19-20 NLT

This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun! And all of this is a gift from God, who brought us back to himself through Christ. And God has given us this task of reconciling people to him. For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people’s sins against them. And he gave us this wonderful message of reconciliation. So we are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us. We speak for Christ when we plead, “Come back to God!” For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.

2 Corinthians 5:17-21 NLT

The Challenge:

1. Make the decision to abandon everything
2. Be led by Holy Spirit and jettison everything that doesn’t fit!
3. Pray and look for what God is calling you into that’s weird: “The Call”
